Operation Bear Hug: CARE-NET Supports Children of WV Deployed Troops
CARE-NET has co-sponsored Operation Bear Hug since its inception in November, 2009. This collaboration includes the WV Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America (AVVA), WV Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA), American Legion, and the WV Army National Guard Family Resource Group (FRG).
Operation Bear Hug seeks to help military children during the difficult time of a parent being deployed. Operation Bear Hug provides a “Teddy Bear” with a recording device inside. The recording device records a message of a deployed soldier and will provide his or her family with a comforting message.
This message should help the children of military families who frequently suffer with separation anxiety. To date approximately two hundred bears have been provided to military children.
