A Thankful Thought for West Virginia's Warriors

Thanksgiving is a time of memories. A time to reflect on the timeless and heartfelt experiences of our joy and thankfulness for the freedoms accorded us as Americans. Freedom is not free in the sense that many of us have come to understand as we watch West Virginians march off to wage war in such places as Afghanistan and Iraq. Thanksgiving is often viewed as a "time" to eat a hearty meal, and sit back and enjoy The National Football League's Thanksgiving Day game on television. Our national holiday stems from the feast held in the autumn of 1621 by the Pilgrims to celebrate the colony's first successful harvest.
However, as we reflect on this Thanksgiving Day, let us remember our gallant warriors who will be absent from "their dining table" this year. Thousands of West Virginia military personnel and their families will be sacrificing for those of us who are enjoying our Thanksgiving Day meal and rooting for our team to win the football game. As West Virginians, let us express our thanks to our military members and their families this Thanksgiving Day.
